You are welcome to join
our celebration of Ruth Sampson's 100th birthday. These pages reflect some of the events
of our party on September 5, 1998. |
On
a warm sunny Saturday in September, the family gathered together from across the country
to celebrate with Ruth on her 100th birthday. Outside, the Covenant Village swans provide
an elegant greeting for all arriving guests. |
The
family celebration was the culmination of a week's worth of activity for Ruth. Friends and
students from her teaching days dropped in to visit. Covenant Village through a big
celebration for it's oldest resident. At almost 31 years in residence, Ruth is also the
longest term resident at the village.
Those that were unable to attend the celebration sent cards and flowers. Some of the
150 cards and letters decorate her door. She will have no lack of reading material to keep
her busy through the autumn months.
|
Included
in the letters were two from President and Mrs. Clinton acknowledging the
occasion. |
Other residents were able the
share the occasion with Ruth in many ways. The number of flower arrangements quickly
swamped Ruth's small apartment. Many found a home in the common room where all could
enjoy. She even received a delivery of long-stemmed red roses shipped all the way from
Norway. |
