Homeade Gear - Simple, Easy and Cheap
Gradually the commerical manufactures are beginning to get their act together. Too often products sold to backpackers are more appropiate on a summit attempt of Everest, than for a hike trough the woods. Does one really need to take a backpack that weights 7 pounds empty to carry enough goods to spend a few days or a week in the woods? Well the answer is no! Packs weighing in as little as 12 ounces are now available. They can be purchased or with a little elbow grease, you can make your own. Let me tell you there's a lot of satisfaction spending the night in some distant mountain range at 12,000 feet, knowing your saftey is in the gear made by you! Below are a series of links to site on the Web where you can find tips for making your own gear.
