Day 44 - Saturday, August 9Maine 4 to Piazza Rock Lean-toRon "Fallingwater"Although we covered a couple miles, today was primarily a rest day. Brandon and I packed our packs and we all headed into town. After a good breakfast at Dot's Restaurant we grabbed some snacks and headed down to the lake. The rest of the morning was spent lounging at the lake. Brandon went swimming while we just kicked back and relaxed. A while later Tumbles folks came over to set up a picnic for the Fab 4 (Spaz, Tumbles, Carni and Smokin' Joe). We all had a great picnic. We found out that Tumbles parents (the O'Donnells) live in Bangor. They offered to take Linda to town and provide her a place to stay. That leaves one less thing to worry about. Later in the afternoon the skies got darker as rain clouds came off the lake. Linda packed up to leave with the O'Donnells, and we said our good-byes. The rest of us headed off to Mike's Sports Bar to wait for clear weather to hit to the trail. The rest of the afternoon was spent in the bar with everyone indulging a bit more than usual. Finally around 6:00 the rain stopped, and what was left of the sun appeared. I knew that now was the best time for Brandon and me to leave. Since no one else was in mood to hike, we said our good-byes and headed back to the trail. The hike into the Piazza Rock Lean-to was nice and flat. Brandon "Lucky 13"Today we woke up and hitch hiked into town. We were only going two miles today. We ate breakfast at a restaurant in town then met up with the gang. We all went down to the lake and relaxed. We swam and ate. Tumbles parents brought tons of food, and we all ate until we were sick. When Tumbles parents left they took mom with them and said that they will make sure that she gets home ok. After mom left, it started to rain so we went over to Mike's Sports Bar and sat around. Dad and I had some shopping to do so we walked over to the store and bought all the things we needed, and then went back over to the bar. We sat around until 6:00 then dad realized what time it was. We went outside and got a hitch out the trail. The two miles seemed to take forever, but the rain had stopped, and we were actually making good time. We got to Piazza Rock in about 45 minutes. When we got to camp we set up our stuff in the shelter and snacked until bedtime. Linda "Red Rainbow" - Rangeley to Bangor
