Welcome To Our Appalachian Trail Adventure.

When these journals first appeared on the Internet 1995, they were the first on-line journals covering an Appalachian Trail thru-hike. Since then, thousands of people have dropped by to read a page or two of hike that occurred long ago.

If you have a moment or two to tarry from life's busy schedules, we hope you'll find our journey interesting.

Over the years the AT has changed enormously. Long gone are the days and weeks of solitude when a chance meeting with a fellow backpacker was cause for celebration. Then sightings of thru-hikers were rare indeed. Today's hiker finds himself in a different world. One where social skills are almost as important as backpacking skills.

Ron & Linda at Trail's End For an interesting contrast, you may wish to read A Summers Sojourn. That journal recounts our return to the AT in 1997 after 20 a years absence. Joining us on this trip is our our 13 year old son. Included in its pages, are daily comments from each of us as we try to reconcile old memories and form new ones.

As we prepared for our journey, we read through all the accounts we could find of earlier through hikers. This provided us with invaluable insight on how to tackle the many obstacles presented by the AT. As it turns out for many through hikers the major obstacle to completion is mental. Reading the accounts of others helped us to prepare for the mental challenge of the trail.

Enjoy,

Ron & Linda Moak
