Deep within the mountains and backcountry of the American West, a narrow path threads it's way through endless canyons, across snow covered passes, across knife edge ridges high above the valleys below, along long stretches of open desert, over numerous creeks and streams, past high mountain lakes, around mountain after mountain, through stands of tall old growth timber, around and through remote clear-cuts, across bogs, by volcanic fumaroles, and through long stretches of waterless fire ravaged timber.

Through the States of California, Oregon and Washington, the trail wanders between Campo on the Mexican Border to Manning Park in Canada. Over it's course, it spans a distance of over 2650 miles. The Pacific Crest Trail by name, and one of several National Scenic Trails established by Congress in the late 60's.

This website documents my adventures along the trail. The people I met, obstacles overcome, success and failures. Through these pages, I hope to convey a small semblance of what life is like along the Pacific Crest Trail.

Just why I endeavored to purse this trail is still somewhat of a mystery to me. Year's ago in my youth, my wife and I hiked the Appalachian Trail - AT '77. It was always our goal to do all three long trails, Appalachian, Pacific Crest and Continental Divide. However, life, mortgages and a family tend to reorder priorities.

Then in 1995 a bout with cancer gave me a wake up call. Life's too short to give up all one's dreams. So after recovering, we returned to the Appalachian Trail - AT '97 after 20 years for a reunion hike with our son.

That journey inevitably led to the decision to do the Pacific Crest Trail.

Enjoy!
